Welcome to...

                            "Unsung   Quiet Heroes"

The Navy nurses & corpsmen profiled on these pages have always been "Quiet Heroes" but unknown to us. Well now they are known. And...we honor you for your sacrifices and service to our country during the Korean War. Thank You !

Sam D Garrard HMCS:  Sam Garrard, served two tours of duty as a corpsman aboard the hospital ship USS Consolation. His first tour of duty was from 1945-1946 and because he was part of the initial crew of the Consolation he was known as a "Plankowner". His second tour of duty occurred from 1949-1951 during the Korean War. Sam was a HM1 corpsman abroad the USS Consolation. He served in the MAA force for the hospital. Sam also assisted in the triage of patients ashore at Pusan and helped with the offloading of patients. Sam retired as a HMCS (Senior Chief hospital Corpsman).
