Welcome back...
Next... two very surprised
photographers were asked to put down
their cameras and come to the
podium
where they were presented with wonderful gifts of affection from the "Quiet
Heroes " nurses.
After that Marilyn Ewing Affleck
was then
presented with a bouquet of
beautiful flowers and a
check for her hard work
in organizing and staging this reunion luncheon. Gunnery SGT. Garrison Gigg USMC (Ret.) and SGT. George
Williams USMC (Ret.) (H-3-7,
1st Marine Division Korea
1951) did the honors.
(LtoR) Sgt. George Williams USMC (Ret.), Marilyn Ewing Affleck, & Gunnery Sgt. Garrison Gigg USMC (Ret.)
Sgt. Jack Fenwick, USMC (Ret.)
was then introduced.
His story and how it relates
to the
Navy Nurses & Corpsmen of the
Korean War can be read by clicking here.
After his introduction, all the Navy Nurses of the Korean War present were introduced and asked to come to the podium for a very special presentation by Sgt.Fenwick, USMC (Ret.).
(LtoR) Virginia "Gini" Jennings Watson, Joan Heath Steyn, Lois Prothro Kessler, Jack Fenwick, Dorothy Venverloh, Lura Jane Emery, Marilyn Ewing Affleck, & Jean Ellis Young.
Sgt. Fenwick USMC (Ret.) told the nurses of his admiration and affection for them.
And to
show that appreciation, he
presented them with one of his exquisite ink
sketches that
he
created while a young Marine recovering from his Korean War wounds.
The title of this ink sketch is
"Corpsmen ! ".
It should be noted that Sgt. John Fenwick USMC (Ret.) was further honored by BUMED* by having his ink sketches placed on special exhibit at Bethesda Navel Hospital. Read about this by clicking here.
After this special
presentation, Capt.
Steve O Conner USMC of the USMC
Korean War
50th Anniversary Office said a few words.

Both David & I would like to express our sincerest and deepest thanks to all who decided that we should be honored at today's luncheon. Being a "Nurse Paparazzo" has been very rewarding for both of us. We are honored to be able to help in our small way to tell this very important story about the Navy Nurses and Corpsmen who served in the Korean War. Thank you again for thinking of us and the really "Cool" gifts !
